Reddit’s AI video feature converts posts and comments into short videos and podcast-style audio as the platform tests new ways to consume discussions.
Reddit is now testing a tool that turns written posts into short videos and podcast-style audio, powered by artificial intelligence. This new feature began appearing for a small group of users on August 17, 2026. It gives people the choice to read a post as usual, or watch and listen to it instead. The change matters because it could reshape how millions of people experience Reddit each day.
The new feature is part of a “Play” experience that Reddit is testing alongside its usual reading format. When available, users can choose to play a post instead of reading the full discussion. The AI reads the original post and selected comments while the related text can appear on screen. This creates a short audio or video version of a Reddit conversation.
Reddit is testing the feature with a limited number of posts and communities. The experiment is available on the web and is also being rolled out to iOS and Android users. Reddit is currently choosing which posts are included in the test rather than converting every post automatically. The company is expected to use feedback from the test to decide how the feature develops.
One example involves an older post from the r/boardgames community about games that adults could play during road trips. The discussion had received more than 100 replies over the years. Reddit turned the conversation into a short video using AI-generated voices to read the original question and selected answers. The result presents an old text discussion in a format that users can watch or listen to.
Reddit CEO Steve Huffman has previously spoken about making Reddit content easier to listen to in the background. The company has also seen the growth of videos and podcasts that use AI voices to present Reddit stories. Reddit spokesperson Rosa Kim described the new feature as an early and limited experiment. The company is using the test to learn whether users find this type of experience useful.
The experiment also fits into Reddit’s wider move toward audio and video content. The platform has introduced other video-focused features as it looks for new ways for users to interact with posts. The AI feature does not replace the original discussions, posts, or comments on Reddit. Instead, it provides another way to consume conversations that already exist on the platform.
For now, Reddit’s AI video and audio feature remains in testing and is not available for every post. The company has not announced when it will become widely available to all users. If the experiment performs well, Reddit could expand the feature to more communities and content. The test shows Reddit is exploring how AI can turn its large collection of text discussions into new audio and video experiences.
