Gemini Hits 1 Billion Users, Google’s 14th Product to Reach Milestone

Google Gemini hits 1 billion monthly users, joining Google's biggest products as its rapid growth strengthens the company's position in the global AI race.

Gemini Hits 1 Billion Users

Google’s Gemini app has officially crossed 1 billion monthly active users. The company announced the news on August 11, 2026. This makes Gemini the 14th Google product to ever hit that mark. It is a huge moment for Google’s push into artificial intelligence.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai shared the milestone in a post on X. He called Gemini “our fastest growing product ever, and our 14th to hit the 1B-user mark.” Pichai also thanked Josh Woodward, who leads Google Labs, Gemini, and AI Studio. Woodward’s team also confirmed the news in an official company blog post.

Gemini now joins a small list of Google products that have reached 1 billion users. That list includes Search, Gmail, Android, Maps, Chrome, Play and YouTube. Reaching this level puts Gemini in rare company. Very few apps in the world ever get this many regular users.

Gemini’s growth has been fast. In May of 2025, Google reported 400 million monthly active users. A year later that figure hit 900 million, and it kept climbing after that. By July 2026, the number passed 950 million. Just weeks later, it broke past the 1 billion mark.

Google also shared how people use the app. Gemini has seen a high level of user engagement with 63% of its users opting for the voice feature to interact directly with the assistant. The app also creates a huge number of images. Gemini now generates more than 150 million images every day, according to Google. The app is also growing well beyond Google’s own devices.

Gemini is not just Google’s own app. The company also has more than 100 million active users on iOS, showing it reaches iPhone users too. Gemini is built directly into Android, Chrome, Search, and Workspace. This wide reach helps explain why the app grew so quickly. Some of that growth comes from users who see Gemini by default, not by choosing to download it.

Gemini’s rise shows how deeply AI has entered everyday life. It also puts Google in close competition with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which hit 1 billion monthly users earlier this year. Google is expected to add more Gemini features soon, especially around its upcoming Made by Google event. As AI tools keep growing, the competition between major tech companies is likely to grow even stronger.
