Amazon makes Alexa+ free on compatible Fire TV devices in the US, removing the need for Prime or a separate subscription.

Alexa+ Free on Fire TV

Amazon is making its Alexa+ assistant available at no extra cost on compatible Fire TV devices in the United States. The change means Fire TV users can use Alexa+ even if they do not have an Amazon Prime membership. The rollout began on August 19. It matters because Alexa+ was previously tied to Prime or a paid subscription for many users.

Alexa+ is Amazon’s newer AI assistant, designed to understand more natural conversations. On Fire TV, users can ask questions about movies and shows, search for content, and get recommendations. The assistant can also answer questions about what is shown on the screen. Amazon says Alexa+ can make entertainment searches easier by understanding follow-up questions and context.

The free access is available on compatible Fire TV devices in the US. This includes current Fire TV Stick models, the Fire TV Cube, Amazon Ember smart TVs, and some televisions from brands such as Hisense and Panasonic. Amazon says eligible devices will receive the change automatically. Users do not need to download a separate app or sign up for the upgrade.

Alexa+ can do more than search for entertainment. Users can use voice commands to control supported smart home devices, including lights and security cameras. It can also provide information about actors, scenes, movies, and TV shows. These features are designed to make Fire TV easier to control while users are watching content.

Before this change, Alexa+ was included with Prime in the US, while customers without Prime could pay $19.99 per month for the service. Amazon has now removed that cost for Alexa+ on compatible Fire TV devices. However, the free Fire TV access does not mean every Alexa+ feature is free on every Amazon device.

There are still some limits to the Fire TV version. Features such as Routines, some Ring camera search functions, and other advanced home automation options are not included in the free Fire TV access. The change also does not automatically make Alexa+ free on other Echo devices. Customers using Alexa+ on those devices may still need Prime or a separate subscription.

Amazon’s latest move gives Fire TV owners a simple way to use Alexa+ without paying for Prime. The company is currently offering the free Fire TV access in the US on supported devices. Amazon has not said that the same offer is available everywhere, so users in other countries may have to wait for further updates.
