SteamOS: A Linux distribution built for running Steam & Steam games. Offers a dedicated gaming experience with a user-friendly desktop interface.
SteamOS is a Linux distribution built on Arch Linux, specifically engineered for running Valve’s Steam platform and associated games. Beyond supporting Steam and its game library, SteamOS also includes a KDE Plasma desktop environment, enabling users to utilize standard Linux applications. Key features of SteamOS include an Arch Linux base, custom-built drivers and updated graphics stack, a long-term support Linux kernel, and a unique compositor designed for smooth transitions between the Steam interface, games, and the overall system overlay. While the underlying operating system is open-source, the Steam client itself remains proprietary software.
