Discover VitruvianOS, a modern operating system inspired by BeOS. Experience the elegant simplicity of a classic OS with Linux compatibility.
VitruvianOS is a modern operating system built on the Linux foundation, drawing inspiration from BeOS to deliver a responsive and user-friendly desktop experience. It achieves this through custom kernel modules and real-time patches, ensuring low latency performance while leveraging Linux’s extensive hardware support. A key feature of VitruvianOS is its compatibility with existing BeOS/Haiku applications, requiring minimal code modifications to utilize the familiar API. The operating system utilizes XFS and SquashFS for reference boot filesystems, offering full extended attribute support. XFS is recommended for standard installations, while SquashFS is ideal for creating live images and embedded systems. Ext4 and other Linux filesystems with extended attribute support are also supported, along with a default kernel containing PREEMPT_RT real-time patches, enabling further customization options. Future releases include planned features such as filesystem indexing and live queries.
