RethinkDNS combines a firewall and network monitor with a DNS over HTTPS client, inspired by OpenSnitch and pi-hole. It operates in two primary modes: DNS and Firewall. In DNS mode, all application’s DNS traffic is routed through a user-chosen resolver via DNS over HTTPS or DNSCrypt, enhancing privacy and security. The Firewall mode allows granular control over internet access for individual applications. This includes denying access based on various criteria such as screen state (on/off), app activity (foreground/background), connection type (metered/unmetered), or pre-defined categories from the Play Store (Social, Games, Utility, Productivity). Furthermore, users can create custom blocklists to further restrict application access.
