Robocopy: Robust file copy command-line tool for Windows. Replicates directories efficiently. Check if files are locked before copying with Robocopy.

Robocopy

Robocopy, or “Robust File Copy,” is a powerful command-line tool available since Windows NT 4.0, designed for robust directory replication. Unlike the standard Windows copy and xcopy commands, Robocopy offers enhanced features such as tolerance for network interruptions enabling resumption of interrupted transfers. It accurately copies files, preserving timestamps, NTFS ACLs, owner information, and audit data with command-line switches. Robocopy allows administrators to bypass read restrictions when copying entire directories, defaults to persistent retries if files cannot be opened, supports mirroring modes, skips identical files based on size and timestamp, provides continuous progress updates, handles filenames exceeding 256 characters, and enables multithreaded copying (Windows 7 only). Furthermore, it returns a program termination return code for batch file usage.
