Explore Rigs of Rods! This free, open-source vehicle simulator uses advanced soft-body physics for realistic vehicle and object simulation under the GPLv3 license.
Rigs of Rods is an open-source vehicle simulator, licensed under the GNU GPL v3, that stands out with its advanced soft-body physics engine. This allows vehicles and other objects to be realistically simulated in real-time as flexible bodies, where their behavior depends entirely on their physical construction, including weight distribution, materials, and suspension systems (for vehicles). The simulator also features an advanced flight model based on blade element theory for accurate airplane simulations, alongside a realistic buoyancy model simulating the movement of boats with complex hulls. While initially supporting dual-core processing and basic scripting with AngelScript, future development includes enhanced multithreading and CUDA support. Built upon the OGRE graphics engine, Rigs of Rods provides a robust platform for creating detailed and realistic vehicle simulations.
