Google TV is a video-on-demand (VOD) service offered by Google, providing access to movies and television shows for purchase or rental. Initially launched in 2011 as Google Movies, it later evolved into Google Play Movies & TV before being rebranded to Google TV in 2020, especially within the US. The rebranding coincided with the debut of a new user interface for Android TV on the Chromecast with Google TV media streamer, deeply integrating the Google TV service. Content is available in high definition and, in some cases, 4K Ultra HD. Users can access the service through streaming devices, the Google Play website, Chrome extensions, mobile apps (Android & iOS), supporting offline downloads. The US version of the app was renamed to Google TV in September 2020.
