Friendica: A decentralized social network where you control your data. Connect with others using your own server or integrate contacts from Twitter, Diaspora*, etc.
Friendica is a decentralized social network application that empowers users by allowing them to connect through their own server while also integrating contacts from platforms like Twitter, Diaspora*, Pump.io, and StatusNet into a unified newsfeed. Beyond two-way connections, Friendica facilitates content publishing on platforms such as Google+, WordPress, Tumblr, GNU Social, and Libertree, with an expanding list of supported networks. Users can also integrate email contacts and RSS feeds. The developers emphasize decentralization for user freedom and self-determination. To try Friendica, users can either join an existing server listed at http://dir.friendica.social/servers or install their own server from https://github.com/friendica/friendica/releases. Both options are free to use. Friendica runs on commodity hosting platforms using PHP/MySQL/Apache and supports up to several thousand members per installation, enabling the creation of a user-owned and controlled social network with unlimited connections between installations.
